365 Days Travelled – My Year of Travelling

Today marks a major milestone for me. Incase you missed the title, exactly one year ago today Ben and I boarded a one way flight to Bangkok to embark on our biggest trip to date. Two weeks of goodbyes, dinners, drinks and get together with family and friends all building up to that day. 15th January 2017.

Since those teary goodbyes at London Heathrow we have had quite a year of travelling.

  • 7 countries travelled.
  • 16 flights boarded. (Racking up those air miles!)
  • 4 different jobs.
  • And one tiny blue van we call home.

Looking back on the past year there are too many fond memories to mention. Weโ€™ve had incredible highs: bathing with the elephants in Chiangmai, learning to surf in Bali, kayaking the jaw dropping Milford Sound. But with them come lows too. Having to evacuate Airlie Beach in the wake of cyclone Debbie was a scary one. Without that crazy day though we wouldnโ€™t have had the memorable night drinking a box of wine in a road side services car park with the lovely Sam and Carolina. (Before curling up to sleep in our rental Fiat Punto – another low lol.)

While weโ€™re on the highs and lows it would only be fair to share my lesson learnt too. The key lesson Iโ€™ve learnt from my year of travelling is simply:

There is no place like home.

The past 12 months have been amazing. I have enough memories to last a lifetime and although Iโ€™m itching to discover more far flung corners of the world, Iโ€™m ready for some TLC at Home. Distance really does make the heart grow fonder and I cannot wait to spend some time with MY PEOPLE.

With less than 4 months until I return to the UK Iโ€™ll be sure to squeeze in every last bit of adventure. To my family and friends back home, Iโ€™ll be seeing a lot more of you in 2018.

Hereโ€™s to the final chapters of this sweeeet journey.
